Many Katy residents are familiar with the Midway establishments off of Highway 90. The meat market is known for its excellent butcher shop. Just a little way down the street is another great place, Midway Barbeque. This restaurant has been a popular spot for years as a great place for families to enjoy some excellent barbecue.

Midway has an old Texas feel, almost Wild West-like, with dozens of animal heads and other taxidermy animals lining the walls. It is a casual spot, where plates are assembled as you order and red-checkered tablecloths fill the room. On the weekends, live music is performed and there is plenty of room to book a space for a private party. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food comes out fast, hot and fresh.

There are a variety of meat options, from pork to brisket to chicken. The pork is tender with a nice crust; there is also excellent sausage with a slightly spicy note and a great bite from the casing. Sides also abound at Midway. Baked potatoes are also offered and can be topped with a variety of meat. The chopped beef baked potato is a wonderful combination of sweet, smoky meat with the fluffy potato and is only accentuated with cheddar cheese. The potato salad is some of the best to be had, with just the right amount of dressing and a tangy kick. The barbeque sauce is also excellent; it is sweet with a hint of smoke. An unfortunately forgettable item on the menu is the cherry cobbler. It is fairly lackluster and there is no special touch.
The price range at Midway is comparable to most barbeque restaurants. A plate runs about $10 depending on the meat. The portions are generous, however, and therefore are easily split or brought home as leftovers. The community feel and cozy atmosphere of Midway is palpable, and it is no surprise that this place is so popular among Katy residents.
